2014 Special Theme Days
March 1 – Opening Day presented by VyStar Credit Union
The Riverside Arts Market is back! March 1st is a huge day for Downtown Jacksonville and the Riverside-Avondale neighborhood! With Community First Saturday, the St. Johns Riverkeeper’s launching of River Month, and Weaver First Saturday FREE FOR ALL at the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, there will be activities for the entire family spanning the full mile and a half of the Northbank Riverwalk.
At RAM, more than 150 available booth spaces will be filled with our 2014 vendors. Join us for the Opening Day Parade through the Market, and stay all day for shopping and entertainment for the whole family.
April 19 – Local Authors Expo
Local Authors Expo – While Riverside Arts Market’s vendors are primarily visual artists and craftsmen, Jacksonville is home to numerous authors and writers whose work deserves to be celebrated. Special booth spaces will be occupied by local authors of all genres, bookstores, and other businesses and organizations of interest to readers. The market stages will also feature spoken word artists and poets.
May 3 – Bike Day
One of the region’s most walkable communities, the Riverside-Avondale neighborhood’s narrow residential streets, tree canopy, and multiple pocket parks have also contributed to the growth of the area’s cycling community. Riverside Arts Market is a favorite destination for cyclists, in part due to the weekly Bike Valet and the independently organized RAM Ride at 9am each Saturday morning. RAM utilizes Bike Day to celebrate National Bike Month and to remind our visitors that they don’t need an automobile to get around our great city. Bike Day also promotes National Bike to Work Day on May 16, 2014. Activities will include mass bike rides starting at RAM and a used bike parts ‘swap meet’ and you can also drop off your used bicycle for donation to a local charity. Special booth spaces will be occupied by local bicycle shops and other business and organizations of interest to cyclists and cycling advocates.
May 10 – Spring Arf Barket
It’s National Pet Week and the Riverside Arts Market is celebrating with the bi-annual event, Arf Barket!. Festivities include a pet parade through the Market, a costume contest and splash pools for our furry friends. June 7 – Kids’ Day presented by Jax4Kids.com
Join Riverside Arts Market and Jax4Kids.com in celebrating being a kid! RAM is always full of kid-friendly entertainment and activities such as our Children’s Creativity Corner, balloon artists and face painters, but what better time to ramp things up than the start of summer vacation and the day before National Children’s Day (Sunday, June 8th). Entertainment will be geared towards kids – making sure there’s plenty for them to do. Special booth spaces will be occupied by local businesses and organizations of interest to families with children.
July 4 – Fireworks Viewing from Under the Bridge
Celebrate our nation’s birthday at the Riverside Arts Market! This special event day runs from 5pm-10:30pm, and features RAM food and summer specialty vendors (lemonade, popsicles, ice cream) and beer trucks featuring local brews. Join RAM for a spectacular river party in advance of the City of Jacksonville’s fireworks display at 9:30pm.
July 5 – River Ruckus
The St. Johns River is one of Jacksonville’s most vital natural resources, and with Riverside Arts Market’s immediate adjacency to the river, under the Fuller Warren Bridge and at the end point of the Northbank Riverwalk, comes the responsibility of promoting the importance of the St. Johns as an ecological and recreational resource to our community. RAM is thrilled to partner with the St. Johns Riverkeeper to produce the 2nd Annual River Ruckus. Kicking off the Riverkeeper’s ‘Save the Water’ campaign, River Ruckus is a Beer Day, with bluegrass music on the River Stage, stand up paddleboard lessons, free boating excursions from the RAM dock, a flotilla of kayakers, paddle boarders, and other water craft traveling up the St. Johns and the return of the incredibly successful Celebrity River Jump. An eco-friendly village featuring river friendly non-profit organizations and businesses is included in the celebration.
July 26 – National Dance Day
While music is the typical art form featured on the River Stage at the Riverside Arts Market, dancers will be taking over to celebrate National Dance Day. Dance performances will be scheduled on the Market’s various stages throughout the day. RAM will also encourage visitors to learn the ‘Everyone Can Dance’ routine featured on So You Think You Can Dance to be performed on the River Stage and video recorded for upload to the National Dance Day website. In 2013, over 100 visitors danced with us on stage! Special booth spaces will be occupied by local dance studios, dance supply stores, and other businesses of interest to dance enthusiasts.
