Arvid
Smith

Arvid Smith is one of this city's most versatile and revered musicians.
He has performed at the Riverside Arts Market more than any other
person, both on the River Stage and the Crossroads Stage, and he has
played more different musical instruments than anyone else. A fellow
artist summed it up best when she said: "Arvid is a Jacksonville
treasure."
The musical journey has not ceased for Arvid Smith. His thirty years in
Jacksonville has seen involvement in nearly every concievable mode of
music fit for a string player. From pretentious out there experimental
rave ups at the local Planetarium to new wave when it was really new
and on to hobnobbing on the dobro with the cream of old time and
bluegrass geezers of all ages, his thirst for musical wandering
continues ever onward.
As a
member of the roots group Tammerlin, he tours
nationally and is probably one of the very few players to have graced
the stages of both the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and CBGB music
club in Manhattan. With Tammerlin he has
shared the stage with such artists as The Band, Emmylou Harris, Roger
McGuinn, Dar Williams, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Alex
Di Grassi and many other notables.
Never one to keep his involvements to a minimum, he can be caught
performing in the Jacksonville area with The 77ds rockabilly thrash or
the eclectic Americana of the Longfellow Street Band, as well as
providing the backdrop on sitar for a Hatha flow at Ananda Yoga.
When you catch him please stop and say Hi.
At the Riverside Arts Market, Arvid can often be found playing sitar
from 9:30 to 10:30a.m. each Saturday, waking up the market with his
enchanted strings.
