Shea Slemmer

Shea A.
Slemmer was born and raised on a small farm in central Florida. She
always held a strong affinity towards music and art. After
receiving her Associates Degree in Music Education in 1998, she shifted
gears and moved her attention to visual arts. Slemmer then
pursued her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and drawing at the
University of North Florida in Jacksonville, FL.
Her experience as a working artist was gained through a three-year stay
in Savannah, GA where she produced several large bodies of work in her
City Market studio. During that time Slemmer visited Paris and
began making regular trips to Manhattan to start understanding the
world art market. In 2006 she spent four months in Austin, Texas
where she had a studio and worked with a wide array of talented
artists. You can now find Slemmer working from Flux
studio/gallery located in historic Five Points in the Riverside area.
This series is an attempt to negotiate a gap existing between the
digital and analog art-world. There is a metaphorical bridge
connecting visual dialect with viewer interpretation. As the world is
rapidly becoming digitized and technological advancements happen at an
exponential rate, we sometimes forget the honest labor of two hands.
Shea believes we twist and turn in an ever changing web of social
continuance whereby we each influence one another, and therefore
humanism has become her primary source of inspiration. The
paintings that develop are mosaics of decisive strokes of color relying
on composition and implied imagery that strive to expose our evident
humanity.
